A solicitor and four others have appeared at court charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and making false statements in a car insurance scam.
Solicitor Kashif Khan, 33, his wife Asha, 28, and Boston Mohammed Khan, 68, all of Grainger Park Road, Newcastle, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court yesterday along with David Moat, 45, of St Luke’s Drive, North Shields, and Kelly Gilchrist, 27, of Shafto Street, Scotswood, Newcastle.
Kashif Khan is charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice and two counts of dishonestly making representations in an insurance proposal to make a gain for himself.
He is also charged with the less serious offences of making false statements in an insurance proposal and making false statements in relation to an insurance policy. Asha Khan is charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Boston Khan is charged with perverting the course of justice and four counts of intending to make a gain for himself by failing to disclose information to his insurance company.
David Paul Moat is charged with one count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Kelly Marie Gilchrist is also charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Chair of the Bench Gerald Chalk told the defendants: “You all face an allegation of conspiracy and I must send you to the Crown Court.”
No pleas were entered and they were all granted unconditional bail to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on November 7. Kashif Khan will also appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on November 28 so the less serious offences can be committed to crown court.
