APIL joined forces with the Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS) this week to call for important amendments to the LASPO Bill.
The associations also hoped to raise public awareness of the key issues which will affect people if they are ever injured through negligence after the reforms.
A news release sent to the national, trade and regional press called for all clauses relating to personal injury in the Bill to be scrapped in favour of:
- A ban on handing over injured people’s private details without their explicit consent, on every occasion.
- A strict ban on cold calling for solicitors to be extended to insurers and claims management companies.
- Tighter regulation of personal injury advertising to prevent misleading, exploitative and distasteful advertising.
- An austere duty on insurers to report suspicions of fraud to claimant lawyers as soon as they arise.
