APIL aboard justice Bill discussions

APIL will next week inform the House of Commons Bill committee about massive injustices facing the most severely injured people if Government proposals for civil costs succeed.

The association will provide evidence to the committee, which is examining details of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill, on Thursday (14 July).

APIL’s invitation to attend the evidence session presents a golden opportunity to influence the Bill’s progress, and an ideal platform for APIL’s messages.

Immediate past president Muiris Lyons will speak for the association, and demonstrate how the Government’s proposals are unfair and could deny access to justice to people who most need help from the system.

Labour MP Jim Sheridan and Conservative MP Philip Hollobone, who both voted against the Bill at second reading, will chair the committee.

MPs involved in the committee stage are listed below. They will examine the Bill line by line and have until Thursday, 13 October to either approve or amend the Bill.

APIL will contact each member of the committee and draw attention to the issues the Bill presents.
