The Thomas Russell Cancer Trust is holding a Masquerade Ball on Saturday 8th October 2011, 6.45pm at The Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-le-Spring. The evening will feature a two course dinner, live band, disco and a charity auction.

The Trust, set up and run by Insurance Medical Group’s Customer Service Manager Joanne Russell, has so far raised £50,000 which has been used to purchase a paediatric ventilator for the new PICU unit at Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary. Jo’s son Thomas was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer at just 11 weeks old. Thanks to intensive chemotherapy and 24 hour specialist care provided by consultants and nurses at Newcastle RVI and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Newcastle General Hospital, Thomas celebrated his 6th birthday in May.
